Are you making the most of the time you have?
You know my philosophy – life is too short and I am determined to make the most of it while I can. And why the hell not? It’s my turn. I have worked my bouncy butt off since I was 13 (my first job was in a hair salon @$3 per hour). At 55 and having trained and worked as a lawyer, as a senior executive, and built my own businesses, all while nurturing three kids for 25 years, the last 8 of these as a single mum, I find myself in a place where I have more time, money and energy than I have ever had.
And I want to invest it. I want to invest my time in the people and the activities I love most. I want to invest my energy in opportunities that bring joy to me and my people. I want to invest my money in experiences that enhance our lives.
All of a sudden, I am an empty nester. The thought of not having ready access to my kids takes a little getting used to. However, I have found that it is easier to adjust from a beach in Sicily.
Speaking of Sicily, in February we spent a week touring the north in search of our perfect Italian home. We found an incredible abandoned Palazzo and returned to Australia to commence negotiations. I was in China in March on a speaking and book tour at the invitation of the Australian Embassy sharing messages from ‘The Life List’ – including that life is too short, so short that we must focus on designing and living your best life, today – when I received the news that the Palazzo was ours!
I have just spent a glorious, sun and pizza-filled month in Sicily to settle on our Palazzo and generally to pretend that I am an Italian (but not quite pretending anymore, after all…).
Why? Because this is a long-held Go Big Goal, and it’s coming true because I am making it come true.
I am not the only woman feeling this way – that life must be vigorously lived, right now. I regularly receive emails from women in my community – women just like you – thanking me for ‘The Life List’ and sharing their story with me. I want to share some of these stories with you – you can read Cindy’s story HERE. It might just be the dash of motivation you are looking for.
