Cupcakes Ended my Corporate Career

I was 40, building a life as a lawyer turned senior executive in one of Australia’s biggest companies. I was also CEO of my household, with three kids under three. One day, being a ‘superwoman’, I dropped my son at school. I had the suit, heels, red lipstick. I had it all—except cupcakes for ‘cupcake day’. My son was in hysterics and I was in crisis mode. When I walked, late and guilty, into my first boardroom meeting, everyone looked silently at their watches. I had the profound realisation I was the only member of that executive team without a wife.

And I thought, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’

That was my sliding door moment. I started my first business, an online portal connecting busy people with home help. But what I was really selling people wasn’t a babysitter or nanny—it was time and freedom to live a life by design.

That epiphany became my first book ‘Me Time’, guiding professional and business women to regain time, energy and control. Me Time became a bestseller. I had found my purpose.

Now I’m an international time management specialist, coach, author and speaker working with high performing individuals and teams. My reputation? Helping clients including L’Oreal, BUPA, Westpac, Specsavers and the European Union find 30+ guilt free lost hours of time a month.

Truth is, we can’t manage time. It’s the great equaliser. Just like money, it’s a precious, limited resource that you need to invest for the greatest possible return.

Many executives and business owners I work with think working exceptionally hard and saving for retirement is what planning for life is all about. They don’t realise they can plan for, design and live their perfect life right now.

In 2023 I published my 5th book: ‘The Life List: Master Every Moment and Live an Audacious Life’. The Life List is about realising we must take control and design our perfect lives today, because later might be too late. It’s a call to action for women who want more. The Life List is not a bucket list of what I want to do before I die. It’s a life list: what I want to do while I’m still young enough to enjoy it. Because after spending decades nurturing my career and family, it’s my turn. It’s your turn, too!

I am thrilled that The Life List won ‘The Best General Business Book’ at the 2023 Australian Business Book Awards. Mostly because it proves that when you very intentionally design your perfect life, set your audacious goals and then work your arse off to achieve them you – you can achieve anything.

Coaching thousands of people around the world has given me laser focus on how to find and invest time to create your greatest life. It’s a gift I’d love to share with you via proven, replicable strategies.

Always starts with a cold water swim with my beautiful sisters. It is the most joyful way to start my day.

I am so excited to be a digital nomad in Bali for 7 weeks (goodbye winter in Melbourne), and I am going to learn to surf on a 7 day surf retreat in Uluwatu! Go girl!

My family. My business. My health & wellbeing.

I share my knowledge, experience and my most valuable resource — my time —with causes that matter to me.

I am on the Advisory Board for Sole – the Australian accounting software designed for sole traders, freelancers, and the self-employed. I also proudly support Share The Dignity.

Share The Dignity is an Australian organisation dedicated to breaking the cycle of period poverty. Through generous donations, Share the Dignity has delivered millions of packets of sanitary items and bags of essential toiletries to girls, women and new mums in need. Its annual #ItsintheBag campaign encourages us to fill a bag with sanitary products many of us take for granted.

When I met Share the Dignity’s founder and CEO Rochelle Courtenay in 2015, I thought, ‘This is a woman on a mission and I want to support her as much as I can.’ Since then, I’ve worked closely with Rochelle and her team to provide 1:1 coaching, productivity and goal setting workshops, ongoing advice and time and love. I am honoured to support this foundation.
