The Life List has opened my eyes to a whole new life. You should see my list! It’s large!

I think my favourite type of goals are the Go Now Goals – those acts of spontaneity which often turn out to be life changing. My new mantra is – Let’s do it now. For example, last April I set a Go Now Goal to be alcohol free for a month. I liked it. I liked how I felt. It ended up being 12 months off alcohol.

Prior to working though the Life List frameworks I was unsure of the next stage of my professional life. I had exited a demanding COO role at a global financial institution and I took a career break to be with my family and to reframe. It is a massive privilege to allow yourself a career break – but that time out led to better decision making.

I felt a little lost. I initially thought that I would take on a handful of Directorships – but I tried it and it simply wasn’t for me. I pivoted to thinking about providing a financial advisory service for women and that in turn pivoted to establishing a unique offering – a mid-size financial advisory service offering for the Western Australian market. Leeuwin Wealth was born.

With my Go Big Goals I have found mind mapping – which The Life List introduced me to – to be a game changer. It’s a great planning tool that affords me deep visualisation, making my goals feel very real. When we mapped out Leeuwin Wealth, so many people told me it was too big a job – but I had no doubts because our detailed planning helped cut through the complexity.

As a family, we’ve recently spent 3 weeks in Lapland, Paris, and Cotswold. I have loved watching my children discover their love of travelling, of trying new food and meeting new people. Seeing them catch the travel bug and coming home to see them reading an Atlas at the dinner table has been wonderful.

My new let’s do it now mentality means I am saying ‘Yes’ to more opportunities. Sometimes I have to drag my husband kicking and screaming – but it’s introduced us to new friends and new hobbies. It has also helped us work out what we don’t like – which in itself is a gift. Not everything on your Life List has to be something you love.
